Tree huggers + Whoopie slings = Fail

I have been playing with my hammock suspension... I got a set of tree huggers and Attached my Whoopies to them. Needless to say that in order for that set up to truly work I’d need to be about 10’ tall to get the huggers high enough on the trees to allow the Whoopies, at their shortest, to work.
Looks like I’ll be going back to tree straps...

Or, find trees that are farther apart? The whoopies I have (one pair from Dutch and another pair I made myself to the same length) can be shortened to about 18". Yeah, that leaves a LOT of excess amsteel hanging out, but it works. These days I usually use dyneema straps and a Becket hitch, but if I were going for the lightest setup possible, I'd probably stick with whoopies.

But, hey, use whatever works for you. That's why there are so many suspension choices. There's something for everyone out there, and as long as you're protecting the trees and keeping your butt off the ground, you're doing OK.

I probably could have on 1 of the trees but not the other. It boiled down to the whoopies just not shortening up enough tied to the huggers. It was just a test run so all good.

Lol. Yes, I had a set of toggles with me but the idea was to have the huggers and whoopies instead of toggles. It doesn’t save a ton of time if I have to keep taking the whoopies loose from the huggers to use a toggle.
It was just a test run anyway.
At this point I’ll be going back to the toggles on a tree strap or beetle buckles.

I actually keep both whoopie slings and continuous loops on my hammock. That way I can tie off directly to the loops for very short hangs or use the whoopies + straps for very long ones. You don’t have to go all in on one or the other.

True. That’s the nice thing about straps. They give you more options than the huggers. I was hoping to cut down on a little length but not a big deal in the end.

How are you attaching your whoopies to the straps?
