    Stealth camp

Has any one tried using a military style leafy camo cover, over the tarp( possibly sewn to tarp) to better hide their set up.

Have you considered a camo print tarp? the patern-to-fabric prints are available from most of the cottage mfg's. you can get a native camo tarp for exactly this purpose. less bulk, less crap to mess with. but I have been tempted to try this too, since you can find the military surplus netting for like $10. havent tried it yet though

The problem with camo tarps is the rectangular shape. You‘ll have to break the unnatural straight lines to be unvisible.

I just know when I walk away to look back not only rectangle shape but the unnatural sheen, or fabric look. Camo doesn't look camo-y from far away in the sun splotchs

I have used a 3D leaf pattern covering over my tarp in the past for more stealth. Work well, but does add some weight. The 3D leaf pattern covers my ridge line to break up the horizontal shape of the tarp. It’s not as wide as my tarp so the lower sides of the tarp are exposed. It’s still very difficult to see this tarp unless you are around 10 feet away from it.

In the Adirondacks, if not camping at a lean-to or designated campsites, we must camp at least 150 ft. from a trail, body of water, etc. This usually results in a situation in which one is "stealth" camping out of sight.

Camo vs Muted Woodland colors for stealth camping.

If you get caught while using woodland colors...you can always make the point you were just lost not trespassing/hiding..or you'd been using camo

Whenever the subject of stealth camping comes up,forgive me,but I have always wondered just who or what is it they we are hiding from and why? All my tarps are muted colors,no camo, but if I were to get a larger DCF tarp you better know it would be camo as I otherwise hate the standard green house transparent heat sink that it is otherwise.

This isn't a bad setup. It almost disappears at dusk to dawn. Closed doors make it much less of a light catcher. Summer time full leaves it's gone from 150 feet away.
