What do you use for external pole mod ties?

I have some choices for attaching external poles, over the ridge line to the panal pulls on various tarps - SuperFly, Universal, Old Man Winter, etc. From some used gear I’ve purchased, I’ve seen small dogbones made of LashIt. I imagine light bungee cord would work. I think there was a post were someone made a mini-whoopie sling so the tension was adjustable.

What has or hasn’t worked for you and about how long is the line from the panel pull out to the pole?

I imagine just a loop of light cord would work - hitch around the panel pull nylon and a double twist around the pole end. Because the pole itself is flexible, bungee might be redundant. Or it might have enough extra tug to keep things together in a storm?

If the line btween tarp and pole is too short, the tarp has a flat top that can become a swimming pool in the rain. But if it’s too long, it doesn’t do it’s “widening the interior space” job. What has worked best for you?

I use an 8" loop of Atwood micro cord on each tieout. Adjusting the tension is as easy as wrapping it a few extra times around the pole.

I made some very short dogbones out of some scrap 1.8 mm dyneema I had lying around. The spliced loop at the pole-end is made just big enough to slip over the end of the flexible poles I use, while the loop at the other end is larks-headed to the tarp panel pull.

But I'm in the process of switching to using trekking poles instead of flexible poles, and so will incorporate some shock cord to maintain some give in the system. And some bigger loops to go over the wider ends of the trekking poles.

What is the distance (how long) do you have the panel pull out to the pole?

I made dogbones from some extra bungee I had. The holes are pretty small so I made some mason line soft shackles for connecting larger diameter poles like hiking poles.
This photo is from my last trek out (forgot my mason line shackles here). It did the job, but I'm still tweaking my system after each use and weather condition.

90% of my tarp cordage is copied from Frozen's excellent video. He used a single piece of zing-it which attaches to the panel pull and then takes a continuous loop and attaches it to that line with a prusik knot. I had actually been thinking about removing the continuous loop recently, after all I basically just need one length since my pole size does change. Well then I was setting up in preparation for the derecho we had come through the midwest a few weeks ago while on the SHT and realized my panel pulls were so tight it was compressing my CRL flat onto my tarp. Adjusting all my lines took just a few seconds, definitely leaving well enough alone. After the storm neither my trekking poles nor the knots had moved at all.

Thank you for the links and suggestions. This is for a specific tarp - 13 ft SuperFly with the WB poles. Brandon suggested about 6 inches length. I have a few tarps with panel pulls so I may make the variable one shown above for experiementing, then make the indicated fixed length dogbone.
