    Calendared ripstop nylon

I'm working on plans for a DIY down underquilt. I'm a little confused about the RSBTR fabric options as there doesn't seem to be a lot of description on the website (at least I haven't been able to find the information I'm looking for).

Can anyone tell me if the 1.0 HyperD fabric is taffeta or ripstop?

What is the difference between the 1.0 HyperD and the 1.1 Ripstop?

Lastly does anyone have closeup pictures of these two fabrics that show the ripstop pattern?

    TIA

The difference between 1.0 HyperD and 1.1 Ripstop is mostly weight, the # indicates oz/sqyd, higher number = higher weight. 1.1 Ripstop may be a bit more robust but HyperD is softer. Beside the weight difference I think HyperD has been brushed or something. It’s a process thing.
Warning: Always select the calendered version no matter what fabric you choose. It’s down proof, the normal version is not.
I can highly recommend 1.0 HyperD cal. for any kind of down quilts. Very soft.
You can find lighter fabric but it’s not as robust.
When working with calendered fabric, think twice and sew once. Needle holes are permanent! Test thread tension on scrap material before you start.

The HyperD is not a taffeta, but I'm not sure if it's a real Ripstop either. It has a diamond shaped pattern, though. I think that is what the "D" in HyperD stands for.

If you click on the "Specs" tab, you can see the details.

    1.0 oz HyperD calendered
    Width: 58''
    Weight: 1.0 oz/sqyd
    Denier: 20D
    Finish/coating: Breathable with DWR

    1.1 oz Ripstop Nylon calendered
    Width: 58"
    Weight: 1.1 oz/sqyd
    Denier: 20D
    Finish/Coating: Breathable with DWR

So spec-wise they're pretty similar. The 1.1 oz Ripstop Nylon probably has a somewhat tighter weave, which increases the weight. This could mean that it is more resistant against quills poking through. I only made a small pillow with low fillpower down out of the 1.0 oz HyperD and noticed quite a lot of feathers poking out. I would use higher fillpower down the next time, or a tougher fabric. I haven't had the time to make down gear with the 1.1 oz Ripstop, yet. So I don't know if it performs better. I picked the HyperD for the pillow because it's softer.

Thank you Snowball and Hutzelbein for your replies. Sorry I didn't see them before. I ended up sending an email to RSBTR the next day and got a reply from them so I forgot to check back here. However I do appreciate your insight on working with these materials. Thanks again!
