    Sap removal

Yesterdays trip, and most of them this summer's for that matter, have ended with sap allover the straps. Yesterday I set 3 hammocks (mine, daughter and neighbor). My hands were pretty sticky when everything was put away. So,,,,,,
What is the best method of de-sapping straps. Don't want to muck up the washer or the wife will muck me up. Thanks

Rubbing alcohol will get rid of the sap on straps. If you want to use it on other fabrics (tarps and the like), test that it doesn't strip water repellant coatings or colors.

I know it’s not the same surface, but I was amazed how easily rubbing alcohol removed a bunch of sap that fell on my car. It baked on there for a while too before I ever figured it out. Not sure though what effect it would have on the water proofing they infuse into tarps.

Sorry, you said straps, not tarps. Disregard that part.

I'm going to pack a few extra alcohol wipes in my first aid kit for this. I used them up last trip when I sat on a sap covered log while "taking care of business" in the woods.

Not really related to hammocking, but hydrogen peroxide is great at getting bug guts off the front of your car after some late night driving.

Thanks. Awesome, I use an alcohol stove, so I have it.

Can’t confirm as I have never tried it but have heard others say they put the straps in the in the freezer for awhile and then it just flakes off. I would try it first before using chemicals.

I've tried the freezing trick and it gets some bigger bits off. If the sap really gets into the weave, you'll need to use the rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol to get them really clean. Doesn't take much alcohol to get the sap out either.
