Super simple tarp/hammock suspension using Turtle Ties

I posted this earlier on Facebook, but stuff gets lost there. I don't believe I've seen any other tarp/hammock suspension setup as simple as this, both hanging from single strands of Amsteel coming off the trees with huggers. Sets up fast and easy, tarp first:

How well does this setup keep the tarp tight when the hammock is occupied?
I've tried various ways to use the hammock suspension for the tarp to save weight but found that when the hammock is loaded the tarp sagged.

Looks like he is using a bit of shock cordage to keep tarp tight. My concern would be the stress riser of running the suspension line around the metal toggle. Would think a Prusik would do the same thing without sharp bends in the support lines.

But yes, the limited times I've messed attaching the tarp to the suspension I had sagging issues. Though I will say I did not use small bungees.

Super simple tarp/hammock suspension using Turtle Ties

I've been using turtle ties to hang my Dutch netless for almost a year. They are so easy to use.
I’ll give this tarp setup a try but will probably continue to hang the tarp separate. HYOH!

Nice idea, Todd. I imagine the tarp portion could be done with other hardware items, too, like a loop alien for example.
The turtles came out after my interest in acquiring new hardware bits had subsided, but I still think they're neat. Would be a fun bit of nostalgia for me to have one each in blue, purple, red, and orange.

I see how that could potentially be a problem, but so far I have avoided any issue, without any special effort. Hang tarp first, taut but not tight. Hammock load tightens further but only a little. Probably important that Amsteel is very close to 30°.

No shock cord, but maybe that would be good insurance.

I got some Dutch Cinch Bugs and used them on the last trip. Very nice. Then I saw the Fugal Design Turtles. Like those too. So many options. That's one of the things I love about the hammocks and tarps. I can play with different parts, lines suspensions (straps, amsteel, wooplies, UCRs, zing-it)... Tents are fine, but if you like to try different ideas, tarps and hammocks are a fine playground.
