    Suspension Separately

I have and enjoy using my WBBB & Traveler with buckles the past several years. Recently I got an amazing new Eldorado and decided to try both becket hitch and buckles using the gathered end loop and storing whichever suspension separate. I’ve been out six times now and do not think that storing/packing suspension separately is for me, I miss the ease of just having the hammock in a double ended stuff sack that I can just pitch around the trees in what appears to be seconds.

I am interested in some other opinions/thoughts on hangers that have made the switch either way as I think the ease and not ever having to check for suspension when I leave is the better way?

    Thanks

Thats fine until your straps are loaded with sap. Then you'll wish you could put them anywhere but with the hammock.

I'm not storing wet suspension with a dry hammock.

I use a small stuff sack for my suspension and it's crammed into the hammock stuff sack.Keeps the wet and nasty suspension off the clean dry hammock so far.I would not put the straps with the hammock without it either.

Also, you can stuff wet or pine sap suspensions in a pair of almost clean socks, and put them in your hammock stuff sack.
Main benefit is, suspensions less likely to be forgotten or misplaced. At least a few readers have done just that and ended up curled up on the ground.
Of course, the more fastidious among us are usually well organized, and never lose or misplace their suspensions.
The choice is yours—the way it should be!

I keep my suspension separate from my hammock to avoid getting moisture and sap all over my dry hammock. I use a ziploc bag instead of a stuffsac so I can take inventory without removing it.

    I've struggled with this issue.

I'm thinking of making a double-ended stuff sack out of silnylon, with an internal pocket that runs the whole length, accessible from both ends. I'll store the wet/dirty suspension in the pocket.

This should reduce the amount of wet/dirty suspension touching the hammock to a negligible amount.

For years I left my suspension on the hammock and left the suspension hanging out of it's stuff sack and wrapped it around the outside. I few years back I switched to hammocks and suspension and my suspension comes off real easy. The only difference for me is now I'm paranoid of walking away with my suspension left on the tree.

When backpacking I put the Kevlar straps in with the hammock even if damp. Never hurt anything, and if the hammock gets a little damp it dries out very quickly when deployed the same afternoon/evening. After the trip, everything is spread out to dry thoroughly before storing.

Not a big pine sap problem where I hike, but the few times it has been an issue I put the straps in a ziploc.

I also stopped wrapping them up neatly... just wad 'em up together into a ball and stuff 'em in the end of the hammock stuff sack.

If you're out for a few days and have any kind of rain, fog or dew, things are going to get damp. Trying to keep everything immaculately clean and dry is an exercise in futility.

The important thing is that all items (hammock/tarp/quilts etc) are bone dry before stowing them at home.
