    Converting a regular UQ into a "Wooki/Trail Winder"-style UQ

Has anybody done this? Any traps to avoid?

I have a full length Hammock Gear Incubator, some very light fabric (Argon 67), and a sewing machine. I also have a Simply Light Design Trail Winder that I can use to base my design on - getting the angle of the insulation right etc. I love the Trail Winder and think all UQs should be like this.

My incredibly quick and dirty design sketch:

Of course I will remove all the shock cord from the Incubator, and maybe some or all of the grosgrain that surrounds it.

I'd be hesitant to do so, but if you're smart and good with a thread injector, then I don't know why not

Should work - I just would probably sell it (since it's a high end UQ) and buy the other.

I can't wait to see how it turns out.

The Incubator is not flat like the Wooki. My guess is, that its slightly curved shape won't work well in a Wooki style underquilt. If it were flat, the easiest conversion would be to simply sew it flush on a rectangular piece of fabric.

Hey mate the conversion in mind aimed for an asymmetrical or symmetrical.... l am interested to see how you go... l also own a traditional full lenght and have meddled with the same idea.... owning a trail winder and a Wooki, my traditional UQ is a beautiful quilt from tier gear, its hanging, unfortunately inside a wardrobe...
Why no one has produced a symmetrical down trail winder, or hybrid Wooki kinda puzzles me...
Anyhow all the best with your project mate!

If you want a symmetrical Wooki-style underquilt, the insulated part needs to cover the full width of the hammock. The Tier Gear underquilt seems to be 114 cm or 116 cm wide. Most hammocks are at least 145 cm wide. So you are missing about 30 cm of width for a symmetrical Wooki clone. If the underquilt is flat (i.e. has no darts), you could convert it to an asymmetrical Wooki clone.

Thank you hutzelbein, l can see a clearer description with a symmetrical Wooki clone... insulation accomodating width possibly 3-4 extra baffles... being symmetrical the sewn baffles therefore without following the asymmetrical directional lay, l assume the baffles then are sewn along the line of head too foot catering toward the symmetrical position?

My apologies hijacking the thread a little Baka Dasai...
