    Here's a new one

My EE revolution top quilt is 6 years old. I've never washed it.

Everytime I look at the directions on their site, it feels really overwhelming, so I say screw it, someday I'll just toss it and get a new one.

Yeah. That's silly, but my wife says it doesn't smell, and in our little food world, that means something.

Who's washed their down quilts? Is it really as challenging as they seem to make it? Here ya go. I mean, wow. Who has time for this? They even made a video. Impressive.

I've always used a detergent wash made for down & wash it in a front load washer. Every couple of seasons, I take my stuff to the laundromat & use one of those industrial front load washers & once it's all done, I take everything home & dry it in the dryer. I use the 'air dry' setting & throw 3 tennis balls in there to help with dispersing & fluffing the down.

    Works for me.

Same advice here. I've used the LOWEST heat setting a tiny bit but am afraid to do so for the fabric's sake. The only pain is that it takes a long time to dry.

Don't know if it's as challenging as they make it seem, but here's a couple more videos by folks who have done it:

I have an REI down sleeping bag I bought in 2004 and used 2-5 times per year since. Only washed it for the first time last year, when we bought a new front-loading washer. I always use separate sleep clothes, and would try to at least wash my face and neck before going to sleep, so the bag didn't get very dirty (to the eye at least). The local laundromat's machines always seemed to have so much soap residue I was hesitant to use them for down items. The bag did fluff up nicely, better than it had been; however, it's now leaking feathers here and there.
