Looking for suggestions to attach tarp to tree straps

I am going to try out a single line suspension this year. With the help of Bonefire Gear I have the geometry figured out and have taken a couple trial runs with success. My current suspension is UHMWPE straps with a Becket tied to the continuous loop. The picture shows it tied. The yellow cord is just the pull handle for the continuous loop.

I have tried a simple prussik and a small carabiner to attach to the tarp D ring (2nd picture)
and that works but I am looking for suggestions to shorten that connection and also be lighter. Hardware free would be preferred but not at the expense of efficiency.

The prussik I mentioned earlier uses the becket as a stopper knot so if something takes the place of the prussik it can do the same. I also do not need to keep the D ring on the tarp.

    Thanks for any input.

I guess it might be a scootch lighter, but what's the problem with FIMB's actual set up, where he hangs the tarp via tree straps and the hammock attaches to dutch hooks spliced to Amsteel larks headed to the Ti-buckles?

Either way, thanks for the post, i'm going to need to understand the math. I will be going this way on my next suspension.

You can tie a marlinspike in the middle of the suspension line and clip a caribiner into it.

In my experience, its best to tie into the suspension line as far up towards the tree as possible. That reduces the amount of tarp movement when you sit in the hammock.

UHMWPE straps tied to the continuous loop is much lighter than buckles, webbing that works with buckles, and Whoopi hooks.

It can be argued that it is not as efficient for some, but certainly lighter.

I agree that tying higher up would reduce the amount of tarp movement but having it right at the Beckett has proven to be acceptable for me so far.

How about a soft shackle loop prusicked like you have now, and the working part replaces the caribiner.

That was one of my thoughts also. Do you think that there is any concern of it opening up when the wind buffets it?

If the adjustable eye of the shackle is a good fit, you require a fair bit of slack to pull the button through. The overhand type of button is slightly larger than the crown wall, but if either are pre loaded to tighten them up, they won't extrude through the adjustable eye.

If your worried, try it for a while, with your current system clipped on as a loose backup.

Here's a video that should help with some ideas.

This seems to work well for me made from dynaglide. The noose from the soft shackle seemed a bit too fiddle for my liking although it was quite secure.

The Beastie D holds the loop smaller than the knot so the chances of it working off the knot deloaded seem to be very small but is still fairly easy to open with my hands. The knot is also large enough that it can’t make its way through the hole.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
