Help with tarps, HG Journey vs Dutch Xenon

Im sure I cant go wrong with either, but do you guys have any feelings on these tarps?

    1. HG Journey, 11', SilPoly 1.1, $145, 450g
    2. Dutch Xenon Winter UL 11', Xenon 0.9, $165, 400g
    3. Dutch Xenon Winter 11', Xenon 1.1 $140, 500g

I want a tarp with doors, I will be using it with a Chameleon. If I order the HG i have shipping penalty so it all comes out to about the same price. I dont think I'll use the side panel pullouts that are std on the HG, but future-proof is nice.

Im leaning towards the Dutch Xenon UL Winter due to low weight and good price, but had a very good experience buying HG.

Im sure all 3 would work. are there some pros or cons to any of those I should consider?

    Thanks!

Personally, I would stick with the 1.1oz fabric for durability reasons. I've heard of folks having issues with the 0.9oz fabric. The last thing you want is for your tarp to fail in the middle of a thunderstorm out in the woods. I just don't think the 50g weight savings is worth it.

As for both 1.1oz options, I don't think one is any better than the others, in terms of quality/performance. It just comes down to personal preference, colors, price, etc...

Good point on the durability. I just watched Dutch's video on the fabric and the 1.1 seems the way to go

I have the Journey. Very nice. More than I need, unless the weater turn bad. All the tie outs give me great confidence when the storms come in.

I have the Xenon will tarp. I have the panel pulls on mine, I use the trekking pole pod to make the tarp more spacious. One thing that the Journey has that the Xenon tarp doesn't, is a tieout point in the middle. On days that are really stormy I wish mine had those to keep the tarp more stable and less drafty.

I have the Journey, and like it a lot. It packs small, and the doors are great for creating a good enclosed space. Only problem I’ve had is that once the empty stuff sack blew away, and I found that the copperish color I’d chosen was nearly invisible in a background of pine needles — fortunately a friend noticed it downwind, and gave it back to me. I don’t know that you’d go wrong with any of your choices, though.

I ended up going with the Xenon Winter regular as I was ordering a Chameleon at the same time and Dutch has a fairly short lead time at the moment (compared to some). The Journey was tempting too for the reasons you say, but dont have any Dutch equipment yet and want to give them a try.

    Thanks for the thoughts!
