Best Angle for TurtleDog Stand Legs?

My husband helped me build a TurtleDog stand from 6.5’ 2x2s last weekend. It works great for my Chameleon. However, it feels a bit tippy to me. I am planning to lengthen my spread limiters to allow the legs to be placed at more of an angle. I know the more vertical the legs are, the better they will be at handling the downward force. But of course, the legs must be angled for balance.

I am not an engineer. Has anyone done the math to establish what is the best angle for the legs to balance and handle the weight?

I can use trial and error, but thought it could not hurt to ask for advice.

Best Angle for TurtleDog Stand Legs?

I'm no mathematical genius, but the angles of your tripods look pretty close to mine. What I've done to combat the tippiness is add small webbing loops at the base of each leg to stake them down.

It is pretty much whatever you feel comfortable with. Wider makes it more stable but puts more stress trying to snap the wood. Narrower is less stable but puts less strain on the wood. Find what you like and make other adjustments (like the advice above) until you are happy.

    Enjoy
