    Need a new hammock. Recommendations?

I have mostly been lounging in my Neo Doublenest for the past couple years, but would like to get something better suited for backpacking. That is, something lighter, smaller, and more comfortable (flat/diagonal lay). I think I'll keep the Double for general hanging with the wife.

What's you're favorite camping hammock for that criteria? I will want one with a bug net (or can use the Eno bugnet). The Eno with bugnet is pretty bulky and heavy

    Thanks!

I think the Dutchware Chameleon is pretty comfy too along with the Simply Light Designs Trail Lair, my personal favorite.

In an effort to lighten things up on the hammock front, I've ordered a Dutchware Half-Wit in Hexon 1.6 & hope it is as comfy as the Chameleon.

A little more specifics as to what you think you'll want/need in a hammock will help.

Are you backpacking to camp or to hike?

Do you require a bug net full time?

    Your height/size/weight?

Using a pad? Using or intending on switching to an UQ?

Any of our cottage vendors will be glad to help you with this as well viia phone or e-mail.

My usual vendor has been Dream Hammocks. They have many models, and almost endless fabric considerations, for most gathered end hammocks. I don't think they make a Bridge, but Papa Smurf is very accommodating. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Good luck and welcome to HF!

Take a hat. Put the hammocks you really want to try out on a piece of paper and place in the hat. Draw out, or have a friend draw out a hammock selection. Keep the hat and papers for your next go. Feel free to add additional hammock selections to the hat. Pass along the hammocks you do not consider to suit your individual preferences to someone else via the For Sale Forum. Repeat.

Are you backpacking to camp or to hike?
At this point just backpacking to camp. I will not be doing significant distance for a year or 2 I would guess. Most hikes/camps will be something like hike 2-10 miles in, stay a couple nights, hike out. Im in SoCal so this could be in the Los Padres mountains most commonly, or an occasional trip to the Sierra's or Oregon. Elevation will be the main obstacle more than distance in most cases.

Do you require a bug net full time?
Probably not, but I hang by a stream or other water commonly, and the bugs tend to congregate there. I like the chameleon style zip-off design so you have the best of both I think

    Your height/size/weight?
Male, 6'1", 185lbs, 41" chest, 51" around the outside of my shoulders with a medium-full breath.

Using a pad? Using or intending on switching to an UQ?
UQ/TQ. I have a HG Incubator and Burrow I'll use with whatever (or on the off chance they dont work I can swap out for another UQ)

I dont need anything custom or fancy looking as a lot of the time will be guerilla camping on public Forrest lands. I just want olive drab everything, probably not a Bridge style.
I guess at this point just finding someone that can deliver before summer is over will drive a lot of who I choose. 8-12 weeks is crazy.
I havent checked out Dream's lineup yet. I'll take a look!

Good luck and welcome to HF!

    You have Eno Doublenest
You said you want smaller and lighter
    And also a flatter lay
You might want your next hammock to be 11 feet long and wide
Maybe five and a half feet wide, up to six feet wide.
Talk and or email your vendors and they can offer seasoned advice.
Also even though you want light weight, keep your fabric up to 1.6 or 1.7
    Single layer
    Good luck
