    Introducing

The Nite Ize Knot Bone. I pre ordered these based on a post here when Nite Ize announced them. I forget who posted it.....

So they came today, and I started playing around with them. I think they will work great as replacements for the toggles on either end of the tarp ridgeline.

    And now some pictures...

This is the first end. The Knot Bone would be permanently fixed to the end of the line. Throw it around your tree and wrap the main line a couple times and youre done.

Here it is pulled tight. You can get some mechanical advantage with it.

So I wanted to see what some weight would do. I dont know the specs, but that a Stihl BG55 blower.

A shot of the other end. This woul be fixed to the main line so it will slide as needed and lock under load.

You do need to make sure you wrap it the right direction. But its obvious if you dont so it wont be a matter of wrapping it wrong and it eventually coming undone.

I wanted to add some more weight....

    And some more...

This didnt slip at all and I know I had about 25 pounds on there.

Who wants to be the guinea pig?

That a promising looking little piece of gear. Are you able to pull enough tension on the line with just this? Can't wait to here more about this little gadget.

The picture with my blower and chair hanging off it is after I got as much tension on the line as I could.

Perhaps Ill do another weight test tomorrow but Ill use a figure 9 to tension the line. Compare deflection.

Any deflection should be the result of the line stretching or the poles pulling together. The gadget is either going to break or slip. These could be best measured by marking the rope at the knot, observing the position before weight is added and again after weight is added and measuring the difference. This will take rope stretch and post movement out of the equation.

Great - I only have a couple trips with the Figure-9's and now I have a new gadget to buy.

I weighed one when I got them. I forgot what it was so I'll weigh it again.
