Rope length to buy for homemade whoopie sling

I'm going to make some whoopie slings. To make a 6ft sling do I need to buy 12ft of rope (x2 for a pair)? Does anyone recommend a different whoopie sling length to 6ft? I'm intending to use marlow 2.5mm D12 (because my local chandlers has it rather than ordering amsteel 2.5mm online); good/bad rope choice?

Your rope choice is fine. The Marlow D12 is a 12 strand dyneema rope. Amsteel is just Sampson rope's name brand. Marlow calls their dyneema rope under the Excel name, or just D12 78. So no issue there. I would recommend that you go 3.0mm if you can. 2.5 would be good for a person under 200lbs but 3 mm gives plenty of margin.

The 7/64" that we use here in the states is more like a 2.75mm line. The specified min. break strengths align with that also.

    2.5mm 490kg
    7/64" 1400 lbs = 636kg
    3mm 855kg

Best of luck have fun it is a good project to do.

you measured correctly. You need ~25ft to make 2 whoopies.

That said, you should order 50' total because A) there's more to amsteel than whoopies, and B) mistakes happen, damage occurs.

My math was off a bit on original post and now I understand Jack777 is using 12.5 ft for the 6 ft whoopie so that is plenty long.

In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Think he's using 12' per whoopie. not 12 for 2.

I made my pair from a 25 foot section cut into 2 12.5 foot lengths. I also used the tutorial from TacBlades on YouTube. His videos are easy to follow. Best of luck!
