    Cutting ripstop/monolite accurately

Noob here, I ordered 5 yards of fabric and forgot to specify I only wanted 4 continuous yards to make my hammock. I've looked into cutting ripstop with a soldering iron, and I'm wondering if I can fold the fabric over lengthwise to half the amount I want cut and help things line up better. Or will this cause the fabric to fuse together? Thanks

Yes, the fabric will fuse together if you try to cut through 2 layers with a hot knife. Also, the Monolite doesn't cut so well with heat. There is so little material that it melts quickly and in little clumps. You gotta be quick.

If you want to cut straight, just follow the ripstop pattern. Much more accurate than cutting along a fold. If you do this on both sides, your hammock will be the same length in any place, and won't have unplanned hills or valleys.

Folded, straight edge and a sharp rotary cutter. Works well with Monolite too...
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....
