Crazy Idea

I had this insane idea of tying some 1/8 or bigger amsteel across a river that is about 150 ft wide then using some prusik knots to place a hammock in the center. Is this as insane and impossible as I think it is or do you think that this is something that I can pull off?

well for starters you would have to tie your suspension about 45 feet above the hammock.

Thank you all for your response, if I ever get around to doing it I will make sure to post pictures but it does seem a little far fetched for what I have available to me.

If possible, use enough amsteel, so that it is shaped like a smile, to give a good hang angle close to 30*. You don’t want a spang tight flat hang, because your amsteel might snap and, worse your trees which are likely already leaning over the water—might just fall on your head.
Get your amsteel up a little higher than looks right because there will be some stretch or settling of your amsteel;
unless you pre-stretch it.
Next to last-don’t use prusiks, instead use marlin spike hitches with hammock weight rated carabiners as your
toggles. Then you can clip your continuous loops of your hammock to carabiners on marlin spike hitches.
GarnUteed not to slip along your amsteel as prusiks will!
