    What is going on here

While camping earlier this last week we had some serious thunderstorms after both storms this section of my tarp looked like it had soaked through.

    Is that what is happening?

It felt dry underneath but was concerned. IMG_20200623_083647668.jpgIMG_20200623_083655907.jpg

Hard to say just looking at it, but it could be some non-sil nylon with polyurethane coating on the inside. Might explain how the outside appears wetted out while inside is dry.

From Phantom, who knows not a lot...
Maybe your tarp is upside down or inside out.
Is there a top and bottom side on your tarp?

Or maybe it’s wearing out...possibly from the sun
and from getting tightly scrunched into a tight storage
    bag.
If it was me, I’d keep using it until it will no longer
    work good enough.
    Then get a new tarp!
It ain’t your fault, people and things wear out
    eventually.
As a last ditch Phantom idea...steam seal affected
    area. Enough fun here—seam seal!

There is a video, sorry I don't have a link, that shows how to make and apply (DIY) the silicon coating. Might look that up if it starts leaking. My Warbonnet mini fly is still going strong at 7 or 8 yrs and about 30 nights of use per yr. Nights not days. My back yard tarp is up all summer and is cooked after 1 or 2 yrs.

I used Seam Grip on all my tarps which was technically the wrong thing to use on one of them as certain material supposedly requires certain sealers and I am confused as to which is which. However,Dutch knows and I am sure he would steer you in the correct direction.

Moving right along.I went to the river bottom once with friends and the humidity got such that a very heavy dew formed on my Warbonnet 20D Superfly and it was very wet so we shook them a bit to get the water off,the sun came out,and STEAM started coming off our tarps.Pretty cool event which I had never witnessed before or since.Important to note that my tarp did not leak.It was soaked on the exterior more than I have seen it get during actual rain which I attribute to the fact that there was just enough moisture to cling and not run off like it would when it rains.

Some tarps are sewed such that they are said not to need seam sealing and lots of people don't like the way sealing looks.I tried watering down Sil Net with mineral spirits, and have used a brush when I did but in the end I resorted to just taking Seam Grip and my old man finger and smearing it on the threads on Both Sides because I had a brand new tarp factory sealed that leaked on the first outing shortly after I received it.It won't leak now though....

It is Xenon silpoly winter tarp-Brown with double end stuff bag. From Squidbilly on the forums it looks like it is from 2016.

Could it be air too humid to evaporate?

If you noticed it first thing in the morning I would think it could have been a real heavy dew that formed and did not get heavy enough to break surface tension and run off.I doubt you could hurt it by using Silicone sprays like Camp Dry or Scotch Guard or something but you might want to ask an expert like Dutch,Warbonnet,or Hammock Gear before you do it.
