Wish I had known this when first getting into the hammock thing. I thought all the gizmological doodadery was necessary, silly me.

I'm currently playing with Jeff Myers' system of continuous loops Beckett Hitched to the tree straps which then connect to evo loops on the hammock. Seems OK and not too hard to release the Beckett Hitch. Also happen to be using soft shackles on the tree straps rather than biners as my biners are a bit long so pull against the tree, might look at investing in some Dutch Hooks for that part.

I use the same system apart from I uses ucr soft linked to my universal loop on the hammock where use use the Beckett to webbing. I love being able to disconnect and reconnect the hammock with its quilts etc without having to reset the height adjustment or re tie any knots. A stopper knot and a loop..a beautifuly simple elegant solution and all field replaceable. I also use soft shackle at the tree for the same reasons. I really see no need for hardware unless you need to operate with huge thick gloves in which case you probably want big fat carabiniers not fiddly bling.
