Question Hammock Gear Economy Burrow 30 vs Sierra Designs Nitro 35

Hey Guys, I can get a good deal on the Sierra Designs Nitro 35, but am also considering the Hammock Gear Economy Burrow 30. They come out to pretty much the same price.

Which would you prefer and why? I think im leaning towards the HG, only downside is its ~3 week lead while the SD is in stock. I also like the look of the hood on the SD.

If I went with the HG, I know most people seem to prefer a sewn footbox, but I probably wont push 30* often and a zip box sounds nice to open up and allow the quilt to be used like a traditional blanket. Should I just go with the sewn or does the Zip help significantly in warmer temps (thinking the low 50's in a 30* TQ)

    Thanks!

I have the Econ barrow 30 and its great, very well made with sewn foot box, I have had the snap and drawcord before but i do not like it as it touches my feet and is uncomfortable for me, sewn foot box if it gets warm stick a leg out, I do not know about SD so cannot comment on that quilt

I'd just get a 20* because that gives you more range, and a 20* quilt is just as easy to vent as a 40* quilt. If you get more into hanging, you can later get a 0* quilt set, and a 40* quilt set. That was my exact buying progression.

For me, 40*, 20* and 0* are the correct quilt sizes if you're gonna have multiple, but some people like to jump around, like 50*, 30* and 10* (or whatever: use your imagination). I would feel stupid ordering 50* quilts because 40* quilts are so wispy and light it's ridiculous. A 50* quilt borders on absurd, to my thinking.

And keep in mind the 10 degree buffer rule - always carry quilts that are rated at least 10* warmer than the expected low. That rule will work 90% of the time, or at least it has for me. Sometimes colder weather can sweep in that wasn't forecast, or maybe there are no weather stations where you are camping so it's impossible to forecast. I once went to a hammock hang where the Weather Channel and Accuweather predicted 18* overnight low (tempting to bring the 20* quilts, huh?) but the actual low was -3* F. Glad I brought my 0* and 40* quilts and stacked them!

After reading some more I see the wisdom in the 0/20/40 setup.

I ended up getting a HG Incubator 20* no overstuff Bottom off ebay and ordered a Burrow 20* 1oz overstuff for the exact reasons you say. I expect temps in the low 30's at worst so figured the 20 was the way to go. I also have a 50* summer bag that unzips flat that I figure I could use as a TQ in very warm weather.

Can anyone comment on the Burrow length? Im 6'1" size 12 feet which is at the high end of the regular length. Should I get the Long? its only ~1.5oz penalty. dont care about the extra $20.

Hammock Gear Economy Burrow 30 vs Sierra Designs Nitro 35

I'm 6' even and have a regular length 20 degree burrow. I've found its plenty long and have pulled it up over my head a few times when I forgot to pack a ski cap to sleep in.
