There was a woman with her family hiking in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park last fall when a large tree fell and killed her. She had pushed her son out of the way to save his life. Very sad. I was backpacking in Frozen Head State park a couple of weekends ago when in the middle of the night, I heard a loud pop, then a second loud pop, then I heard the tree fall with a crash. Luckily it was several yards away.
