Talking 1st hang ever... think I’m hooked.

So I finally got a chance to hang my new BB XLC in the woods behind my house.
    1) The woods in my backyard have a lot of widow makers and underbrush.
    2) You guys make this look easy.
    3) I have a lot to learn.

That about wraps up my experience!
It’s a very comfortable lay but I’m going to sleep in it tonight to test the setup.

Welcome to HF! Be sure to tell us how it went. You may not feel like you slept well simply because of being in a different room (an outdoor room), but you will most likely rest well. That was my experience. I woke up often, but when I climbed out the next morning, my body felt rested. Experience is gained by getting experience. Hang well tonight!
The game is the best teacher.

Thanks. I live in Downeast Maine and love the outdoors. I’ve gone on week long sea kayak & canoe trips and hiked all over New England. Never had an interest in hammocks but it has become difficult to get a good night sleep on the ground. I’m usually a side sleeper. Fingers crossed.

Side note my wife hopes it torrential rains tonight ... She’s a little upset I didn’t inform her of the purchase. Oops!

Nice job getting the foot end up. 12-18" higher really makes the difference in the XLC vs. other hammocks.

Took longer than I would like to admit to figure that out. It made a big difference with calf ridge.

They really show how much higher to set the foot end in the XLC Blackbird video.

Because of the height difference, it's sometimes easier to hang the hammock asymmetrically between the trees, so that the foot end is closer to its tree, instead of centered between the trees.

For the 1st overnight I think it went good.
Dropped to 48°F and it was calling for thick fog in the AM so I took it out of porch mode to help keep the moisture off. I got a great night sleep but I don’t think I installed the Wooki correctly. I’m an active sleeper (move from left side - back - right side - repeat) and I woke up a little chilled and the Wooki had completely slipped off my back and was on the right side. I was able to reach out and straighten it. I’ll have to trouble shoot that.

Congratulations! I hope you made it back. As far as making it look easy - have you noticed in many videos that the trees have no low branche, medium to small diameter, and the very little ground cover - maybe just dry leaves. One surprise when I started hammock camping was how much effort it took to find good trees. Before, as I was considering it, I thought, “How easy - there are trees everywhere.” Then I tried to find some. Nature has a cruel joke where she puts two trees just the right distance apart, no lower branches or one at just the right height to lock a strap where you want it - flat ground cover. BUT - there’s always a third tree between, but off from the center line, of the other two. And that third/middle tree interferes with the tarp set up.

I think it’s designed to build character or inspire new, of not completely PC, vocabulary words.

I would never encourage deceit, but to someone “not into it”, all hammocks, especially those near the same color, look alike - should a few more come into your possession.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

There were a few spots that would have been superior if a 3rd tree didn’t ruin it. Good to know it’s a thing.

Wife is over it. I’m the one that harps about a budget so when I actually buy something she will say since you bought “XYZ” then I should be able to get something.... somehow she always seems to exceed my purchase price. Her working from home will make me sneaking more in a little difficult for now.
