    100 Mile Wilderness

My wife and I are thinking about hiking the 100 Mile Wilderness. I am assuming hammocks would not be a problem, but I thought I would reach out and see if anyone here has done it.

Not in the slightest. My brother and I did it SOBO several years ago. Every lean-too location has plenty of trees, we also camped at some non-lean too locations (Rainbow Dam, on Lake Namakanta). It was an awesome trip, and I can’t wait to go back.

If you’re just doing the 100 Mile, I recommend touching base with Phil at 100 Mile Wilderness Adventures, in Monson. Stayed at his camp on arrival, got a lift to Baxter the first morning. Tackled Katahdin first day, then headed southbound from there.

    Thanks,

Actually started messaging Phil yesterday about a potential trip. One of his posts is why I was planning a south bound trip. How any days did you guys take to go it? I was thinking 8-10 because we usually do about 12 mile days on most of our trips.

Took us 10 days. Could have done it in 9, but took a couple slower days due to a a blister that my brother developed.

I’m hoping to get back and hike it again in the not too distant future.

Did it NOBO in 2010. No issues hammocking at all. I did a portion in 2003 in a tent and it was way harder finding a flat rootless patch of ground.
