    Happy to hang in Ontario

Hello from the cool (today), bug infested (most of the summer), north.

My husband introduced me to camping 8 years ago. We only camp backcountry, crown land where the bugs can be ferocious. So far I've only tent-camped. We always take a couple of basic hammocks to relax in during the day, but whenever he suggested that we sleep in them, I'd turn him down flat because I needed bug protection. Now I've been researching hammock camping and am excited to try it. It's amazing the security a thin piece of mesh can give me (mentally). I saw the term "decision fatigue" on here the other day ... and oh boy, can I relate! I'm about to hit "buy now" on a WBBB XLC and even the colour choice is tiring.

Hoping to finish the purchase and receive in time for our main trip later this summer. I'm actually hoping to receive it before that so I can get used to it and make sure I know what I'm doing. All the videos and reading I've done have made me an "expert" ... nope, not at all! I look forward to learning more from the wise, experienced members on here and the not-so-experienced members who are asking the questions I haven't thought of yet.

    Don't forget to get insulation ... i.e. underquilt/top quilt

Until you get a UQ...throw a pad in to insulate your back and buttocks.
    Enjoy the hammock quest.

Thanks Shug … I’m going to play around with the sleep pads we have before we attempt to camp. Long term, I’d like to get a UQ, but I can only invest so much into this at a time. I’ve been watching your videos & find them incredibly informative & entertaining at the same time. I’ll keep watching for more tips.

    Welcome Peterborough!
I grew up by Lake Ontario in the 60's and 70's, we used to get radio and TV stations from Ontario and CBC in Peterborough was one of them My parents used to watch The National for news and I cannot tell you how many nights I woke up, asleep in front of the TV to hear "O Canada" as the station signed off.
