I'd go with a 20 degree. If the 40 is a sew through design it can more of a "Goldi Locks" challenge of getting it just right. T0o loose and you get cold from an air gap and too tight and you can easily compress the down and get a cold spot.

Allow me to join the chorus - get the 20 degree & vent it (allow it to hang looser) if it's warmer than needed. I have been there when the overnight forecast was for 45 degrees but it actually dipped into the 30's instead. You won't regret the 20 degree purchase.

If it were just for summer, I’d go with a a 40 degree and Under Quilt Protector. If it is for most of the year, I’d go with a 20 degree but not a sewn footbox. The cinch footbox gives more venting options for the warmer weather. I’d still use a UQP - but that’s my thing. Like wide tarps and belt and suspenders - but the UL group is having an influence

In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
