    20* or 40* underquilt?

I'm going to pull the trigger on a trail winder underquilt tomorrow. I will use it with my El Dorado. The last decision to make is whether to get the 20 degree or the 40 degree.

I live in the southeast and camp throughout the year. Probably do more warm weather than cold weather but do fit in a few cold weekends each year.

If I go with the 20 degree to go ahead and get one quilt that will cover me all year, am I going to regret having it over the summer?

Weight and pack ability is not really a concern for me, just temperature and comfort.

Any last-minute inside before I jump tomorrow?

My first set of quilts were 20* (HG 3/4 Phoenix and Incubator) and I used them for two years in all weather. I never had an issue with being too hot. I never had to pull the UQ to the side. If I wanted to vent, I just kicked the topquilt to the side. That's all the venting I ever needed.

20 and vent it in the warmer months, if it is too warm you can pull it to the side at night

Can’t go wrong with the 20*. It is easier to vent than to limit when you can go out. Even in the south that will reduce when you can go out and hang.

If say you were to push out a 40* maxing this out and taking it past the comfort of the warmth degree..... to be awakened by an invitation of cool air.... chances are a restless night too dawn.

I thought l could push my Wooki 40 this required myself to get out from the hammock and shake the down to buff up the loft and spread it even as possible, you see winter where l am is also mild..... Managed to get it down to about 48*F or a fraction lower, soon after made out an order purchasing a 20*.

I'd say get a 20º and vent it if needed.
    Carry forth.

My first UQ was a 40 deg Hammock Gear Incubator. I live in Sydney, Australia, and we have only one or two winter nights that get down to 40 deg. Most winter nights are in the 50s.

I thought I'd be fine...but it only took a couple of cold nights for me to look at getting a warmer UQ.

So I bought a Trailwinder 20 deg. I'm happy with it. If I had to to give up one of my UQs I'd give up the 40 deg. A "too warm" UQ isn't really a problem.
