    Thunderfly... yeah or nay?

    Hey all

Out of curiosity, what are some thoughts on the Thunderfly? I’ve pretty much got myself talked into buying one but just wanted to get some opinions before I pulled the trigger on it.
    Thanks ahead of time.

What season and what kind of weather do you have in mind? The ThunderFly is a great all-around tarp and will handle most conditions. But if hanging out in storms is your thing, or camping with snow on the ground, you may want something with “real” doors instead of the ThunderFly’s mini-doors. I really like my ThunderFly. But I do make a decision when I go out around the kind of coverage I’ll need. The ThunderFly will keep you dry in the rain. It’s long enough that with the mini-doors and a normal sized GE hammock little rain will get under it. But with a strong wind thrashing about, or winter temperatures, you might want more of an enclosure.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

I’m planning on using it for a 3 season cover. I’m in Georgia so it could probably be used for 3 1/2 seasons. I don’t usually plan to be out in sideways rain but We can get some crazy weather out of nowhere.

I've been happy with mine. Spent a few rainy Florida nights in it. Never had any issues. Too bad you missed out on the WB sale, could've got a stock tarp at a 20% discount.

Ehhh... I know, just not quite ready to make the actual purchase yet. Maybe it’s a good thing though, I’d be on the list of people wondering when my tarp will ship.

It is my most used tarp. I’ve been in some bad storms with it, and it worked good. Just bring it down tight to the hammock and the ground and ride it out. Mine has some burn holes that I patched up about a year ago, and soon as it gives me any trouble from those spots, I’ll order a custom 12’ thunderfly. A little extra coverage at the ends would be good. I’ve been messing with a 12’ hammock. Great tarp

Saltfly... are you considering the 12’ Thunderfly for an 11’ Hammock or primarily for a 12’ Hammock?

For both. I also have a Ridgerunner that a 12’ would work for. 6 more inches on each end would be nice.

I have been using a Thunderfly with my WBRR for 3 years now and I am very satisfied with it.
