I’ve been messing about with biners versus my toggles this past week. Trying different dog bone hangs for shoes, pack hangs on biners, only using toggles, and of course, nothing at all (knots).

The biners work fine, and require zero effort. The toggles are the same, and require little effort getting a dog bone attached for shoes, or disconnecting to attach the backpack.

I still don’t have a firm “yes” to either, but I have ruled out the underbelly gear loft and various small clips to attach the the CL’s for now. Photos below show the current experimenting. Note the toggles are from my old ENO SuperSub. Last photo shows weight distribution from trying to hang my pack what would in theory be under the tarp, but not in a gear sling.

Why are you using a biner in the middle? Why not simply put the toggle through the whoopie and use a mini biner or soft shackle for all the items you want to hang?
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

This! The ease of use of a figure 9 in cold wet weather with cold wet hands - in the dark - makes things simpler.

Left is a toggle on a CL (it's not a real CL, it's something off an old ENO I have), and I like the toggle. Whoopie would simply connect to the toggle, done and done. Dogbones would attach to the toggle them for hanging shoes. The biner is redundant 100%, I just didn't feel like swapping out for a standard CL. I'm just seeing if it makes sense to run with a biner versus the toggles in this setup. Right now it feels overkill to have biners when the much smaller toggle does the same thing, especially since I"m using a whoopie suspension.

    That was my thought.

The toggles direct to the whoopie makes sense.
There might be lighter options that function exactly the same, but that might not be something you care about.
