Tarp tension

I use Mason line to larks head to line locks to the tarp. The Mason line is rated at about 15 lbs. That acts as my fuze or safety link. Good question.

I find that if I get the RL reasonably tight first, by the time I’m done staking out the corners the RL is noticeably tighter, yet not too tight.

Enough to be firm, but no more. Tarps don't need too much. There is no advantage to be gained from "really cranking it down".

If you put elastic on the guy lines, you'll get auto-tensioning (nice!), but you also get "billows in the wind" (not nice). That said, i like to have elastic guy lines.

I have about a foot of elastic cord at the tarp end of each of my guy lines and find that is a good compromise between too tight and not tight enough.
