    Under quilt problem

So I am very new to hammock camping, and last night I camped out, and I got a little bit cold it got down to 3*c (37*f) I have an under quilt it is rated at -4*c (24*f) I have a down sleeping bag rated for 5* but I was also using a thermolite reactor bag liner which is meant to add an extra 11*.
Was wondering on peoples ideas of what might have let me down?
I was getting cold spots could I of had my underquilt too tight and been compressing it,
    Cheers Bodie

More than likely had gaps. That is usually the problem.
Most new folks don't hang them tight enough. It UQ should be lifting the hammock up into the air without you in it. Examples in second video below at 1:30 into the video.
What is the brand of UQ?
Maybe the vids below will give some insight. The basic principle applies to most UQs.
    Keep at it.

Shug is probably right, combination of gaps and maybe not being positioned right around your shoulders, etc. also is the length okay for your setup? Suspension properly done up?

Yep, gaps are the problem 9 out of 10 times. It's really, really helpful to have someone of your size lay in the hammock while you adjust the UQ suspension from the outside.

Thanks guys that would definitely be the problem not being tight enough, positioning was right I feel, it’s 180cm (6’) and I’m only 175 (5’9”).
It is a tier gear mala underquilt, all Australian made like to support the local guys.
Thanks for the info I will watch the videos and let you guys know how I go,

When I switched to the Warbonnet Wookie my cold sports just went away. Since it's designed for the black bird there is no adjusting needed. I've used it on my Dangerbird too with no cold spots.

Make sure you don't have the end cinches drawn in too tight or too loose. Many overtighten them and it creates gaps. There is a sweet spot between tight and loose.
    Carry forth.....

You didn’t mention the brand of UQ. Some vendors, HammockGear specifically, have a differential cut - the bottom of the UQ is bellower than the top - so you can cinch the top of the UQ (make sure it’s right side up) up the the bottom of the hammock without compressing the insulation. I used to cinch the ends tight but I’ve watched a few videos (or the same one multiple times) showing how that looks nice parallel to the hammock but can create a gap with a diagonal lie.

Not being able to be in the hammock and out of the hammock (to check the setup) at the same time, I use a UQP because it makes my UQ fit less critical.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
