    Dual Knotty Mod Placement

Reviving a question in old posts, haven’t seen it discussed recently. If you know you have a preferred lay , say feet right head left, is it better for the knotty mods to be placed there? I do have a hammock with both at the foot end, while it helps, I don’t feel like the “pocket” on the head side is nearly as good as the one on the foot side, where the mod is located. Thanks.

I put them in both sides of all of my DIY hammocks (except the full zippered models). On the foot side it keeps the quilt from flopping out onto the ground and on the head side it wrangles the otherwise loose fabric.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

Thanks, but on the head side, is the mod at the head or foot? I’m thinking that the “pocket” on the head side might be better if the mod was at the head.

I put them both at the foot end. I use the head side pullout on the hammock. Never considered putting the knotty mod at the head end. Worth trying..

I have a Wilderness Logics hammock and they added 2 knotty mods - one by my head and one by my feet. It works well. Since i know which direction I lay, I wouldn’t see much value in having them both on the foot end.

I own the same WL hammock as Paul. I agree one at the foot and one on the opposite side at the head really works well.
Want to switch head to feet just flip the hammock over. There is no top or bottom.

On a netless, head and foot would work. On a hammock with any sort of integrated net, it wouldn't. Only one of mine is a netless... the others are either full or half wit style nets.

There's nothing stopping you doing four mods if you swap lays from left/right.
Just tension up the two that you need.

A mod at shoulder lever certainly helps stop a loose side flapping about.

Interesting input from everyone. I've been getting ready to build a netless with RSBTR kit and am considering putting in some knottys. For some reason I thought these were more for the foot end and creating that 'footbox'/wrangling loose fabric by the feet. I haven't really noticed it by my head but maybe I haven't paid enough attention! I was planning to put them both at the foot end to give me options on lay direction which I've liked with the Chameleon so far.

I've been hesitant to get going on this because I'm thinking of putting the shock cord directly in the side hem channels but haven't come across that much in any instructions I've seen so far.

You could stitch some small button holes before hemming the edges. Then if you need them, just thread the shock cord through rather than needing to burn a hole.
