What Shug said...its supposed to help with down migration, but it's not recommended for extra warmth. I know on the HG site, they list the baffle sizes for the temperature ranges. Since down needs to loft up, adding extra down but keeping the baffle size the same is not doing much good other than keeping the down in place.

I'm planning on 1 oz overstuff if I get a Diamondback. With the higher 950 down fill I would definitely get a little since it's pretty wispy. The way I think of overstuff is to help give a quilt some more bulk. It can help make cold spots less common and maybe add a lttle warmth. The biggest unknown is how much a vendor overstuffs to begin with. As an example, my Loco Libre quilts feel very generous on the down. One 2 oz overstuff I ordered was probably overkill. Other vendor's may be different. All of this is IMO of course.

Both of those replies helped me understand this a little bit better. I'll email WB and see what their opinion is. Thank you!

I think overstuffing a TOP quilt is not black and white.

Overstuffing limits the amount of down shift for sure, but it also affects how well the quilt drapes on you. The more full the baffles, the more apt they are to bridge across and not lay down close to your body.

Less down shift is good, but so is the ability to drape down on you. This is a conundrum that I don't have a solution to.

UNDERQUILTS are a different story. I overstuff them as they don't have to drape and down shift is most undesirable underneath.
