Max width of no-see-um needed for integrated net?

    Hi all,

I'm considering making a hammock with an integrated bug net, but I am unsure if I will need to make a seam in the net.

I'm planning on an 10.5-11.5ft hammock with hyperD XL, which is 76" unfinished. So we'll call it 74" wide.

The netting I'm seeing is 54" wide (.9 oz/yd). Is it conceivable that I would need more than 3 or 4 yds (depending on length)? It seems like I will be short based on the various plans and projects I've looked at.

Edit: found the .5 oz/yd noseeum from ripstop by the roll is actually 62 inches, which seems to be more likely to work to me.

    Thanks!

I'd caution you on the 0.5 nano noseeum. I used it on a Robic 1.2 XL Half Wit and while it works good enough, it's is extremely delicate and tears easily. It's designed for the baffles in underquilts and doesn't have great breathability.

I appreciate that. I was leaning toward the heavier initially. For as much as I backpack (not as much as I used to!), the extra weight will be far from killer.

You have a recommendation for the .9 vs .66?

I prefer 0.67 for everything I do. Never tore it. Easy to sew. Breathable. Plenty strong without the extra weight of the 0.9 (which is too heavy for my backpacking needs).

Thanks! Any insight on the 54" width? I'm going to order 4yds,and would love to skip the extra 4 if it isn't needed. Most projects I see don't use super wide material.

Thinking I might just have to order it and find some other use for it if I get lucky and don't need it.

I've always ordered four yards and used the drops to make a peak loft and stuff sack for the new hammock.
