I think you've misunderstood. The OP isn't taking about flipping the UQ over. He's talking about switching from lying head-right to head-left (or vice versa) so that he's lying partly on the uninsulated parts of the asymmetrical UQ.

    It's a pretty reasonable idea.

Well, I don't think there is an uninsulated part of the UQ. And even if there were a few meager inches that "were" insulated, and are now uninsulated (when you switch), it would not amount to anything close to 20%, as far as I can tell. Just switching from asym to sym, or vice versa, is not gonna provide you significant relief from insulation.

Perhaps you're not familiar with the Trail Winder? It's essentially the same sort of thing as a Wookie. There are very large sections of it that are uninsulated. Take a look at this photo:
    https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/00..._1024x1024.JPG
    The blue part is uninsulated.

I just tried lying in my Trail Winder the "wrong" way. My upper back was uninsulated. Imagine a line from just above my left hipbone to just below my right shoulder - everything above that had no insulation underneath. There was also no insulation from around the knees down.

It'd definitely be a lot cooler than lying in it the correct way.

But on a hot night I'd be more inclined to shift the UQ completely to one side of the hammock though, and then pull it back underneath me when the early morning chills arrive.

Makes sense Silver... They are saying you lie diagonally across the insulation rather diagonally with the insulation. This puts their mid-section on the insulation and shoulders, head and feet on the non-insulated fabric. Just think of an X made by your body and the Trail Winders insulation panel.

I’m the same. 70° or less, I use my UQ. Mine is a 0°, and I vent as needed.

One of the nice features of the trail winder is that you can loosen the suspension from in the hammock and vent the UQ. Or just slip it to the side completely.

At mid point, on both sides, the suspension comes out of the channels and has a tensioner. Loosen it out to make the UQ vent and hang loose, or tighten and snug the UQ around the hammock. You can fine tune without even moving your body.

That cordage is not technically the suspension. That's just a 5' section of shock cord to snug up the sides to your preference. The suspension is the shock cord with lineloc that connects to the hammock ends. I suppose it may be possible to adjust that from within the hammock; but it would require some maneuvering.

Either way, the TW is an awesome quilt!

It is the only suspension that hold the sides of the underquilt up. In my defense, fwiw, I guess it would be like a secondary suspension.
