    8 years of quality sleep

After 8 years of not sleeping in a tent, I'm obviously sold on the hammock. My back pain is never there in the morning, it's easy to find a camp site and it's just fun. And I just got another reminder...

I set my brand new MSR Hubba up last night. I purchased it about 7 years ago and NEVER used it. I set it up to test maybe twice in that time. I'll be bringing it on a river trip in addition to the hammock in a few weeks just in case. Camp spots will be iffy for both.

I found the seam sealing tape was all dried up and cracked on the rain fly. I could reseal it, but I think I'll just give it a go.

And sleeping on a pad...I honestly don't know what to do with my arms!!! Where do I put them as a side sleeper? At least the one on the bottom; it will fall asleep within a minute. I may be forced to sleep on my back or stomach. So I'm praying for trees every night of this trip!

    One Click,

If it was me, I would take the time and seal the seam. Its the old Boy Scout in me. Take care of your gear, it will take care of you when you really need it to.

However, if time is short just get a 14.00 Walmart poly tarp and take it along for extra insurance. Mine has lasted 3 years, I use it as much as my HG Journey Tarp. Using Duct Tape, Ive modded it adding doors and pullouts. Ive used it backpacking and car camping especially if I am going to an area with Blackberry and Wild Rose bushes. Way more durable than my Journey and I can fix it in the field with that Duct Tape mentioned above.

I had to train myself to sleep on my back. I somehow end up on my stomach anyway, but I try to cross my arm and fall asleep. Spent a month at home sleeping on my back to prep for my last tent camping trip. Took the tent because I was with other tent people.

Funny, I can’t sleep on my back at home, but can in a hammock. Go figure.

That’s me, too. Sleep like a vampire in the hammock.

    Yep, same here.

One-Click, I can't tell you enough how excited I am to read the trip report when you get back.

I’m going out on a limb here and saying we’ve mostly chosen hammock camping for the superior sleep, of which we don’t get while tent camping. I’m in that group for sure, where I tested several pads and over the years gave up sleeping on the ground. In a pinch, like this example, sure! But MUCH prefer a hammock. Zero back pain.

Will do! I don't want to spend the whole time taking photos, but that's what I usually do. I hate video but plan on doing a little this time. I even bought this embarrassing ghetto GoPro.

I don't want to jinx it, but weather is looking PERFECT! 2 weeks ago it was a flood, this week is brutally muggy and warm, next week looks picture perfect. What a rollercoaster of weather, as usual.
