    Peak shelf - 1 or 2?

    Hello!

I'm looking to get my first Dream Hammock. Looking at the Sparrow in 11ft with sym lay, 1.6 hyperd.

Question for you guys, thoughts on 1 peak shelf vs 2? Getting the Ridgeline organizer as well, and I usually set up my Molly Mac great bag as well, so storage space generally isn't as issue, but...

Coming from a WB Blackbird if that influences thinking at all...

    Thanks!

I think one peak shelf is fine at the head end- especially if you're also getting a ridgeline organizer. Having a peak shelf at the foot end doesn't make much sense to me, because you can't really access it while lying in the hammock. For me, the only items that go in my hammock are things that I would want to access while in the hammock. Otherwise, they stay in my pack.

I use one HG peak bag in all of my hammocks. All but one hammock is a Half Wit style so no real way to use a RL organizer. One hammock does have a second peak bag at the foot end. It's a netless I use in winter and keep extra clothes in the foot end.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I like having the peak shelf at the foot end, with the ridgeline organizer up by my head. I mostly use the shelf for things like my topquilt when it’s really warm, or my warm coat in the winter. I suspect we all have our own little habits.

Having one above your head would be convenient, having one at your feet would be useless for me as it's not as simple to access. I suppose if your were sitting in the hammock hanging out it wouldn't be bad.

I love the peak shelf at the head end in my Sparrow. I think it would be extremely awkward to access a foot-end peak shelf from inside the hammock.

    Head end, yes.

I use a ridgeline organizer for maybe a water bottle, place to put glasses and a battery bank.

For spare warm clothes I added a DH Gear Sling by my feet. It’s indispensable.

I’d get the head end and mayyyybe a ridge line organizer.
Maybe start with just the head end and add the ridge line later if you need it ?

I’m also a blackbird guy and I think part of this switch will just be getting used to not having the shelf. You really can cram so much stuff in there

I ended up going with the peak shelf on the head end and the Ridgeline organizer. Generally I just keep my phone and charger in the hammock with me along with a pocketknife, Garmin, headphones, and my glasses. Nothing crazy.

Molly Mac great bag slung beneath the hammock takes care of the rest!
