    Bridge hammock on a sailboat

I honestly have no idea where to post this, so I thought I'd put it here in general hammock talk. Hope that works...

There's a lot of background to this question, but I'll just get to it: Has anyone here used a hammock aboard a sailboat? I may be heading out for a while on a 39' sloop and thought that my WBRR could serve well above deck at anchor, perhaps run from the mast to the forestay or to a Tensa Solo pole.

I'd love to read about any experiences with hammocks aboard, or even good speculation. Seems like a reasonable way to stay out in the fresh air and give the others aboard - and me - some much needed privacy.

    What do y'all think?

PS: (Edit after reading some older threads): I'm certain a hammock will work aboard, I'm really wondering about a bridge hammock in particular.

I was just reading a thread on reddit the other day about hammocks on sailboats. They were using gathered end hammocks and the traditional woven string hammock with the wooden spreader bar at each end. The reason I bring this up is that they said that boat wakes rolling through the mooring field would roll the boat an hammock at different frequencies and almost launch them into the water. You'd have to figure out a swing damper(?) (dampener??).

Can’t see how a small (compared to big woven Brazilian style) hammock would have a problem AT ANCHOR. I’m be more hesitant with any TENSA design if it wasn’t my boat. You get a lot of lbs per square inch at the end of the pole. The ground can handle it - not sure about the deck of a boat. Not only do you have the down forces, you also may not have the friction that would keep a one pole option from slipping. I think it would be better to use the standing mast and rigging. I’m guessing Google would provide many examples:

In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Obviously hammocks have been used extensively on ships for hundreds of years.

That was my first thought, but it sounds like the OP wants to hang on deck, presumably without adding a permanent hanging post or hardware to the deck.

Thanks for the responses gentlemen. I’m getting the feeling a GE hammock may be better than a bridge for various reasons. Maybe the thing to do is have the modification done on my old HH exped 2.5 and try that. Hmmm. Well, if I get the chance to try it out I’ll let y’all know how it goes.

Amok Draumr was invented by a sail boat owner, for use on his sailboat
