end pole mods go INSIDE the tarp and are 150× better than
External pole mods that are outside and attach to the panel pulls

probably my next tarp will be ordered without panel pulls on it

I used to like not needing the poles, but I've been sold on the way the windward side drops towards the ground as the wind blows against it, further blocking the wind and providing more coverage

Fully agree that this ridgeline system is fast, simple and easy to use. The button knot, toggle and NAMA claws were all a pleasant surprise and it packs tiny and weighs next to nothing.

I concur 100%... been pitching over the tarp and have never had a drip issue, even in the heaviest rain, even on trips of 5-6 nights with hours of rain almost every night.

Indeed, CRL can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. I use knots and 2mm Lawson Glowire, because it holds knots well and is quite tangle resistant. Attach ends to tree with a slipped Midshipman's hitch and attach tarp to one-piece RL (CRL is arguably a slight misnomer) with Prusik loops. The tarp and RL remain together, and the corner guy lines also remain attached.

There's nothing wrong with metal doo-dads and other bits-n-bobs but they aren't strictly necessary if you're willing to learn a couple of simple knots and use knot-friendly cord... i.e. polyester, not Dyneema/UHMWPE.

    Do yourself a favor.
Always use continuous ridgelines for dynema (cuben) tarps.
Use either 2piece or continuous ridgelines for silnylon or polysil.
Don't ask me how I learned that.

I tried CRL's for a while and never really liked that tarp setup & went back to tie outs on both ends of the tarp ridgeline.

However, on my last two trips, I've been attaching the tarp directly to my hammock suspension using MyersTech's all-in-one tarp connector kit. So far, I really like it... it's quick & easy to get the tarp set up & works great. I admit, I haven't been through any rain storms with this setup but have been in the past with my old Hennessy Hammock & tarp setup which uses the same method. Gonna stick with this setup for the foreseeable future.

    Here's my two cents.
I used to use tie outs on each end of my tarp, but centering it after i hung my hammock was a PITA.
So i bought dutches CTR with Tato connectors. OMG what a nice piece of kit and god send. As ex-Infantry i find having a CRL in my person is essential as it allows me to hang a tarp or poncho in a pinch and takes up no room in my chest rig or butt pack. I use the external pole mods and it works great. Im not a weight fanatic and if a few ounces is going to make or break my ease of setup, then i will lose that weight from my waistline
