    Poly Suspension Strap question?

Hi everyone! Hope you are all doing well and staying busy during this time!

Heres my question: Do i need polyester string to sew loops in my straps? (I bought about 50 feet of poly straps from Dutch and I didn’t request a loop sewed in to them. Now im regretting not doing that. Lol.

Can they be sewn by hand, or do I need to do this by machine? Is there a certain stitch I need to learn to do this by hand? Or is there a knot i can use to circumvent the sewing? Thanks for your time! Hope to get some input!

Nylon thread will be fine. Don't use cotton, that way you will not have to worry about it rotting in the weather. I hand stitch mine. Fuse the edge of the strap. Fold it back to make the loop size you want and the just do a running stitch. Go through, move a little, go through again. Work your way around a Boxed X pattern a couple of times you should be good to go. No need to us a machine.

You could tie a figure 8 knot and it will hold just fine. A little bulkier but doable.

Actually for straps, a water knot which is just an overhand knot works really well.

I have been using an overhand knot however I read somewhere it really weakens the strength of the strap. Is that true?

Maybe, technically... but really not enough to matter. I've done it with poly, UHMWPE and kevlar with never a problem. Did it with Amsteel dog bones before learning to splice.

Good to know. Ive had them in an overhand knot for several months now and don’t see anything when I check them before each hang. I just picked up some UHMWPE with evo loops from MyersTech and they are great.
