    Tensahedron - EMT Drilling

Greetings - I am currently building (or trying to) a Tenesahedron stand, using three sections for each 'leg'.

Would anyone be able to advise on how to drill through the EMT conduit using a hand drill successfuly? I have yet to try, but I imagine the drill bit must jump all over the place.

Any help would be greatly received!

Go slow, and use a good sharp bit.

Use a center punch to create a small dimple to center the bit. I suppose a nail could also be used. Don't gammer too hard, just enough to create a small circular dimple/dent in the metal.

Exactly. I used a brand new bit from a cheap-ish Ryobi set. Chewed thru like it was wood!

    Both these things.

Make sure the conduit is firmly clamped in place. All the dimples and sharp bits in the world won't help you if your conduit is free to roll around.

Brilliant, I'll certainly give those methods a go. I assume some form of grip/vice would help hugely!

    Thanks!

I think I have some molegrips, I can hopefully brace the conduit with them in absense of a vice

I don’t know why, but my mind is saying, “put some tape (like masking tape or that blue painter’s trim tape) around the pipe (then dimple it).” I’m guessing the tape will reduce the bits tendency to slip. As Harrison Ford said in Six Days, Seven Nights,"I’m not one of those guys.” (who can do stuff).

Center punch or nail first. This gives the bit a place to grab. It worked great on my Tensa build last week.
