Two Costco down throw blankets clipped to the hammock with binder clips as an underquilt. My son slept in this last night. It got down to 45°F with 5-10 mph winds. He used a 25°F comfort sleeping bag and wore mid-weight base layers.
He said he was nice and warm most of the night but got a slight chill on the underside around 5 a.m. but was able to keep sleeping until 8.
I have done this in the summer with a single blanket which worked fine, but I was quite skeptical that this would work. Pretty surprised that for the most part he was warm enough.
We used 4 binder clips per side (8 total). They have held ok, but I’d like to find something that holds a little bit stronger. You do have to be a little bit careful when entering and exiting the hammock not to dislodge the clips.
He’s going to try again tonight. It’s supposed to be a bit colder with a projected low of 39°, so we will see...
