Do you use permethrin on your down filled quilts?

I hope that everyone who stumbles across this thread is well! I'm running little late in treating all my camping gear with permethrin to help ward off the bugs. My clothes, hammocks and tarps are easy to do but I don't recall ever treating my down filled quilts. How do you guys treat your quilts? Thank you in advance and stay safe!!

I don't treat my quilts, The Hammock and BugNetting provide the protection needed. I suppose if you really feel the need you could sew an underquilt cover but I don't logically see the need but personally, I am not risking messing up my down.

Sleep clothing and hiking clothing/shoes, etc will do the trick. And hammock, mostly to deter mosquitoes.
No need to treat quilts or tarps, IMO.

If you’re really in need, the spray on permethrin might be better than the dunk treatment for quilts.

I agree with the above ... I would not do down stuff, but it might be ok. Just not needed though.

I have read several scientific studies of permethrin exposure to the US Army Troops (uniforms treated to a concentration of .75% not the .5% sawyer uses) and to the daily exposure the workers in the factories get when treating the uniforms. I am satisfied the use of permethrin is safe for the average camper.

However, I do like to keep my skin contact exposure limited. I treat my hiking clothes particularly around the cuffs, waist bands, collar, button line, hat, boots and socks. I do not treat my under garments, sleeping clothes, quilts, tarps or hammock.

If using the spray on method, I do not see that it would affect the down and I have treated my puffy down jacket without any issues I can perceive. I would not recommend the dunk method for down.

Yep. I find no need to do my quilts. All other "surroundings" is fine.

Before my last trip to the Rockies, the Saw Tooth Mtns. in ID, I sprayed Sawyers over my big old Pea Pod, in addition to many other items. I just lightly wet the shell, I doubt any or much ever got to the down. There were plenty of Mossies at the lakes, and I was sleeping without a net( in Permethrin treated clothing and with plenty of 20% Picaridin on any exposed skin). I was glad to have all the protection possible, and it caused no apparent harm to the 900 FP down Pea Pod.

Then again, maybe I didn't need to spray the pod, having sprayed all my clothing and hammock. But, they say the more molecules the better the protection, and all of that permethrin might have helped keep the bugs at a distance, especially while I was sleeping.

I like that idea. I'll treat the under quilt protectors.

I spray only my hammock & netting. Plus my clothing, of course.
