I put a quasi button knot on the end to try that method of connecting cord and I’m going to try out overnight.

Thanks for all of the input!

For a permanent setup like that, you can also put a drop or 2 of Krazy glue (cyanoacrylate) right on the knot after you've cinched it down as tightly as possible. Once it soaks into the fibers and cures the knot will never loosen up.

Two ideas. Electric shrink wrap in a color on the hook part or hollow 550 cord on the same part.

Saw a tip last night watching youtube videos. Person was whipping cord onto a smooth plastic tube. To prevent the cord from sliding they put a piece of bicycle innertube under the cord. This might be helpful to keep the cord from sliding on the metal of the shepherd's hook.

I thought about that but wasn’t sure if super glue or something else would work. Thanks for the tip, I’ll try it out.

Interesting idea, that might give just a little more bite.

I tried the color topped hooks, o still find ways to lose them. Plus I want the extra cord to help pull them out of the dirt.

You have given me an idea though: I could us shrink wrap then tie the cord over it giving more bite to the cord.

That’s a great idea, especially if you use the tender type paracord.

Try some of the orange yarn that you use for trout , salmon or steelhead fishing?

An easy way is to put a loop on the end of your line and girth hitch it around the hook. Easy to attach, easy to remove, but holds well if the stake comes out.

Tying the line to the hook is essential if you are using any kind of line tensioner. Otherwise, if it pulls out of the ground, it gets launched into the woods.
