    ZENBIVY Test/Review Thread

As a flip-flopping side-sleeper who prefers more of an “air cot” (bridge hammock with air pad) to a traditional gathered-end & underquilt, I was immediately intrigued by the Zenbivy as an excellent option for comfortable top insulation that stays in plays while tossing and turning to multiple positions throughout the night.

I also love the idea of the versatility of being able to use it as a regular quilt, topquilt with closed footbox, topquilt attached to the sheet, quilt attached to sheet as a sleeping bag, or even possibly as an underquilt.

I looked up Zenbivy and realized they are based in my town so I reached out. The owner/founder, Michael Glavin, replied and agreed to meet me at a local park to give me a demo.

I mentioned to him that I had been using a Sierra Designs Mobile Mummy... turns out he designed it when he worked there. He also worked at Therm-a-Rest (Cascade Designs). He has over 20 years in the industry and it shows in the the excellent design, materials, and construction of the Zenbivy.

That was in November 2019. I finally just pulled the trigger and got a Light Bed 25. Super excited to finally try it!

Very cool. Is the TQ secured to the air mat? And how did it perform?

I should have watched the video first. I think it would work good in a bridge hammock.

Wow. I’ve slept 40+ nights in a hammock and this was by far the most comfortable. More info to come...

    ZENBIVY Test/Review Thread

    Specs and first impressions:

Zenbivy Light Bed 25 (size large)

    Dimensions (quilt): 58” x 86” fits height 5’6” to 6’6” & weight up to 225 lbs
Dimensions (sheet): fits 25” x 77” pad up to 3” thick
Weight (quilt): 1 lb 10 oz
    Weight (sheet): 8 oz
Down: 800 fill-power HyperDRY fluorocarbon free water-resistant 90/10 duck down
    Shell: 20d Nylon Taffeta
Temp rating: 25°F EN lower limit (based on my Mobile Mummy with a 29° limit and 39° comfort, I’m guessing the Zenbivy comfort rating is 35°)

    Some comments on the specs:

Dimensions - at 5’9” tall & 185 lbs, the 58” x 86” dimensions for the quilt seemed a bit excessive based on other quilts I’ve been looking at. I’m just a bit over the 175 lb weight recommendation for the regular size quilt. I plan to loose weight so I considered getting the regular size quilt to save 4 oz, but Michael, the owner, highly recommended the large for me.

It’s only been one night, but I’m glad I listened. I really enjoyed the extra room at my feet and knees. And at my shoulders/neck/head, there was plenty of extra material to play with and tuck under to get the proper warmth in the right spots.

Weight - I know there are far lighter options, but I only long distance backpack maybe 6-8 nights a year and car/backyard camp 20-25 nights. But at 1 lb 10 oz for just the quilt, I wouldn’t hesitate to take it backpacking.

Materials - the quilt really lofts up quite nicely. I’m impressed. And the 20d nylon taffeta is incredibly soft. I can’t stress enough how much I love the on-skin feel. The design, materials and construction are all top-notch.

First night report coming up next...
