Finally got my post set for my tree + post setup.

My trusty Tato Gear DIY stand finally gave up the ghost (top bar folded on me ) so I had to come up with another way to hang in the backyard. So I found this post protector at Home Depot and installed it a couple of days ago. I need to trim the top off but I can now remove my 4X6 post when the stand isn't in use.

Looks like a good idea but I was wondering if it would collect with rain water when not in use? Also where do you the post when not in use?

Seems huge to be lugging around. When we had our fence installed we put one post in the back tall enough to hang off of.

I am not sure if I want to put eye bolts in it or just wrap the straps around the post.

Pretty slick! Seems like filling with water wouldn't hurt anything right? But I honestly don't know. A plastic cap would solve that if was an issue. I'd simply chuck that thing behind that shed out of the way when not in use. Actually, I would just leave it up most of the time and remove on occasion when I knew I wasn't going to hang for a long time.

I have no trees in my yard that can support a hammock so I’m very intrigued by this solution. How deep is your post? My soil is very rocky so it makes it hard to dig.

Ususally you need to put them below the frost line... but I guess you do not have the problem. I'd call a local fence contractor and ask how deep they put their main posts. Each area and soil type will be different. Sandy soils are different than the thick clay we have here in So. Ohio.

Trail Slug, I like that option. The removable post will make mowing easier.

How did you get such a nice clean dig without trashing a 2' wide area? Power auger?

It is huge now but once I hang both mu bridge and gathered end hammocks I'll cut the post off. I store the post under my deck. I've got one of the 4x6 post caps to put on the hole when not in use.

I dug the hole 36" deep and it was no issue as we've had nearly 30" of rain already this year. I hit a few roots but took my time and got it dug out in a couple of hours. I think I'm going to set another just like this and hang a swing when not hammocking.
