Trail Slug, I like that option. The removable post will make mowing easier.
Yes. I'm going to cut the excess off and set a post cap to help prevent water from getting into the "hole".

No I used the old fashioned post hole diggers. The ground was so soft due to all of the rain we've had this year. I actually hit some water at the 36" and stopped. I also came within a 1/4" of my sprinkler line At least now I know where that is.

I actually used two 60# bags of Sakrete high strength and then finished up with dirt. 36" is a long way down

That looks like a great solution for that. Nice!

On the product page, I found a picture of you during the installation:

    Hi
Looks a great set up, when I put my scaffold pole in the ground to use instead of a post I put it in a sleeve same as you so I can remove it and store it when not in use, when I dug the hole I put 20mm beach shingle in the bottom of the hole then the sleeve and concreted it in, if it rains it can drain though the soil ,well it can in UK water tables are way way down just got to rethink eye bolt on garage set up (see garden Hang post) and by the way I love the size of your back yard, thats like a park in England

    All the best

    Dave

I am getting ready to place some posts. I will need to use two (no trees). Live in zone 4 so the frost line is probably 4feet? - I'll have to look that up. Do the posts need to be 6" thick or can they be 4"? The picture shows a very tall post. I'm guessing it only has to be as tall as where I want to attach a tarp, correct?

I believe the posts are 4x6. I wouldn't go with just 4s. I had that setup for a while until one afternoon, snap!!

Darn it! I am worried that 6" post will be too heavy to be removable.

Yea, I was waiting till I hung both my Warbonnet RidgeRunner and gathered end and then I'm going to cut that post off.

The entire 12 foot pole only weighs around 50lbs. Cut off it shouldn't weight more that 35-40 lbs. I have run into one issue. We are only 10 inches from our "normal" yearly rainfall total so needless to say we've had a lot of rain. With all of the rain the post got a bit wet and has swollen in the sleeve. Let's hope when warmer weather gets here it's dry out and be removable.
