LiteAF tarp

I was looking for reviews of the Liteaf tarp and haven't found much. Their website just has Frozen's review and he have it a 5 because he helped with designing it and the other review gave it a 5 based on watching a video or it from frozen lol. Thought it was funny that they allowed a 5 star review on the website based on someone watching a YouTube video of the product.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone here has used one and what did they think of it? If you have a HG tarp to compare it to, which do you like better? I have a HG Palace, but I am looking for something a little less bulky and less weight for warm weather. I am undecided if I should get a HG or Liteaf, with or without doors. It will also double as my wife's tarp to replace her Superfly.

Will there even be anymore tarps. Was looking at these the other day and the Web site says they hope to make more. Hope is rarely a good business plan.

Wow, something even more lame than the "unboxing" vids.

I have the Palace as well, and also 11' Hex without doors and 12' Hex with doors, both HG. Zero experience with the LiteAF tarp although I'm sure it's a decent tarp.

For me the 11' hex with no doors is fine in all but the coldest, nastiest weather. I've used it on multi-day rainy trips and for me it is adequate. Highly subjective topic, though... some people are happy under a 'postage stamp' asym in a hurricane and others prefer a Palace for everything.

Indeed. I think the FS/WTB forum is going to become very popular.

I would love a lite tarp with auto focus ability.

I thought that was just me and my not-so-young-anymore eyes.

But something with AF in the name should be, like, you know, in focus.

Or maybe it's anti fungal.

An autofocusing tarp? Interesting concept but I guess I'm lost as to the application

. Best bet is to keep focused (pun intended) on something tried and true from Hammock Gear. I've got a 11' HG standard w/doors I've been using 3 years and I've been very happy with it for spring, summer and fall trips. Once I'm in winter mode, I use my hot tent or SLD 12' w/doors.

According to Rochefort, AF refers to a secret Japanese hang at Midway?

As you say, Frozen had a hand in designing the LiteAF tarp. Frozen was coming from the Hammock Gear tarp with doors, and specific issues he had with it. One result is that the LiteAF tarp is straight-cut, vs. the Hammock Gear tarp, which has a catenary cut along the ridge.

There are trade-offs to both designs. See this Jacks R' Better article for discussion about tarp shapes, specifically the section on catenary cuts.

This isn't a review and doesn't answer your question, but it's relevant information if you're considering the LiteAF tarp.
