Greeting from the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee!

    Hello,

I'm former hanger that has returned to being a hanger!

I once backpacked with a Grand Trunk hammock with a Wilderness Logic Tadpole tarp back in 2012. I used to post on here frequently and used to be in awe about other hammock setups. I got out of hanging after 2012 when I bought a Tarptent Moment. I recently hit the hammock bug again and decided to overhaul my setup. I been on a spending spree and have recently purchased a Dream Raven hammock with cinch buckle and a Hammock Gear Phoenix 3/4 under quilt. I still have my Wilderness Logic Tadpole tarp, so that will complete my setup. I do own an Enlightened Equipment top quilt that I purchased in 2013 that I will use as well. I'm looking forward to hammock camping again and learning new setups.

I primarily backpack in the Smoky Mountains and surrounding areas, so if you're my neck of the woods, I would love some great hammock camping spots!

I hope all is staying safe in this pandemic time!

    Kind regards,

    Kevin

Welcome back. You certainly live in a hiking mecca where there are enough trails to keep you busy for awhile.

Greetings Kevin! I had a tarptent for a while as well. Great set up, but love the back support I get from the hammock. I am only a couple hours east of you in Johnson City. I backpack and camp mostly on the AT when I get out. Maybe we could get together sometime.

Welcome! I wish I lived close enough to the Smokeys to hit those trails on a regular basis. I’ve had an HG Phoenix 20 for many years now and it’s my go-to UQ for everything that isn’t deep winter camping. Hope you enjoy the DH Raven, looks like a great hammock!

I know Johnson City well as I am an ETSU alum. I did a overnight trip last February from Carvers Gap to 11E and stayed at the Mountain Harbor Bed and Breakfast and Hostel. It was such a fun trip and it is a trip template that I will do every winter! I’m always open minded for a good adventure.

I am an ETSU alum as well! Class of ‘93. That hike from Carver’s gap is so beautiful. Definitely one of my favorites.
