Would it be too heavy to build bug netting into the rain tarp?

    Just wondering.

Be too heavy in respect to what? If you're using both anyway, the weights won't really change, but I don't know if I would consider that too "functional" and might be more of a pain when drying out your gear, packing/storage and/or deployment.

The other factor to consider is do you really use both "all" the time. For me... I'll often deploy my bug net in warm weather, but not my tarp, or at very least, suspend it but leave it rolled up as a "just in case". In colder temps I'll use my tarp more regualarly, but bugs aren't an issue then and often leave my net at home.

Just one look at the cottage vendor marketplace tells you everything you need to know - nobody sells a tarp/bugnet combo that I'm aware of.

And why do you want the bugnet and tarp combined?

If you find the triangular apex of bugnetting a bit clostraphobic you can attach it to the tarp for more room. Design has to be flexible enough for wide open porch mode & hunker down mode. Hence more material. So heavier.

Look into the Sierra Madre line

They have one or two models that have the bug net but into the tarp. I took a close look at them at MAHHA a couple of years ago. Well done.

Nemo and Kelty both have options. We have considered one for our canoe trips, but it seems more of a hassle unless your staying put for a while.
