    A really wierd question

Ok i have written alot of posts about getting a stand that really works for me i got a tato stand it was to big by 3 inches. I then tried to hang my hammock i spent all day looking for a stud to hang it myself then i got a professional contractor to find a stud turns out i live in a old miners ballon house there is no stud lol and no insullation either but i did not need a contractor to figure that one out. Any way its sort fun to think about and i have alot of time to think due to self distancing and being laid off. Could you make or design a hammock stand strong enough out of legos alot of legos. Dont know if i would try it but its a interesting thought for someone who is bored and trying to amuse herself. Just the design alone.

Ok what do you guys think

I think it would be cheaper to build a stand out of 2x4’s. Legos are expensive unless you have the budge for it.

I'm not an engineer but I watch How It's Made somewhat religiously. So there's my CV.

However, it seems to me it would likely take a massive amount of Legos to provide enough strength and rigidity for this application.

Maybe a lot of legos and gorilla glue... and some duct tape.

Legos are great for vertical support and stability. Hammock hanging would pull horizontally with some angles.

Now if the legos were support columns and it held a pole, like a turtle stand, then it could work.

What in the world is an "old miners ballon house"? I'm familiar with balloon framing. But that uses studs and you stated that "there is no stud".

    I'm stumped (as is Google).

Fun question. Building with LEGO (all caps, no "s" at the end - the plural of LEGO is LEGO) is another hobby of mine and has been for years.

In my opinion, this isn't something that would be feasible, at least not realistically. I do believe a LEGO hammock stand could be built and be strong enough with an appropriate design, but you'd need thousands of dollars worth of bricks, LEGO Technic beams, and pins to make it a reality. Might as well just buy a real stand at that point. But there's a lot more to building than just stacking bricks vertically, so you might be surprised at what's possible.

There's a TV show currently running on FOX called LEGO Masters, and on a recent episode the teams made bridges. 2 of the bridges supported loads of 1,000lbs which was the maximum the show runners would allow.

If you really want to play with the design aspect, check out a free computer program called LEGO Digital Designer, where you can design something from an unlimited supply of virtual bricks.

Coincidentally, designing a brick-built hammock out of LEGO (in minifigure scale) is no easy task.
